With its retro, pin-up styled bottle, this Italian tonic water certainly makes a visual impact! But it's just as striking in a nice gin and tonic!
Macario Tonica begins in the 1950's with Nonna Vittoria Macario, Grandmother of the Macario clan. She would spend summer afternoons mixing refreshing drinks for adults and children alike. Her recipes were so well loved the family ran a small business selling them locally. Fast forward to now and one of her grandsons has resurrected the business using the same ingredients and slightly adjusted recipes (mostly to reduce sugar) that appeal to a more adult palate.
The bottle might be a nod to the 1950's but this is a modern craft tonic. Light and not overly dry with a subtle citrus note and a slight sweetness. It complements nearly any gin and would be a good choice for someone not overly fond of quinine.
