Handmade in Germany, inspired by Africa, Elephant Gin is floral and fruity, plus, 15% of proceeds go to support African elephant charities.
The idea for an African-inspired gin came from the ‘sundowner’ drinks that end a day out in the South African bush. These sunset cocktails are a big tradition in South Africa – and more often than not, consist of a G&T. Elephant Gin is distilled using 14 botanicals, including rare African ingredients you won't find in most gins such as; Baobab fruit, Buchu plant, African Wormwood, Lion’s Tail and Devil’s Claw.
Since it sold its very first bottle, Elephant Gin has been giving 15% of all proceeds to two African elephant foundations, Big Life Foundation's Ranger Club and the Space for Elephants Foundation. These charities work to establish habitats for these magnificent animals, counter poaching and improve the quality of life for poor communities that might otherwise support illegal poaching.
Elephant Gin doesn't just do wonders for African wildlife, it's pretty good for your taste buds too! Spicy flavours hit you at first, encompassing floral and fruity notes before the juniper takes over with a long, dry and delicately warm finish. A complex but smooth gin.
Definitely a stand out at the Gin Festival. This gin offers something slightly different and it was great having it with apple and ginger as the garnish.
