Though a relatively modern company, Kingston Distillers, are steeped in English history. Based in the Royal Borough of Kingston-upon-Thames where King Athelstan, the first king of England, was crowned in 925AD. They create their classic English spirit, using only 6 key botanicals: lime, orris root, sweet orange peel, coriander, mint and, of course, juniper!
Their juniper really is something special - grown in Box Hill, Surrey, they are the only distillery to use English juniper in their gin! English juniper is in steep decline but Kingston Distillers are working alongside the National Trust to try and change things.
Becketts London Dry Gin has a fresh but warm and whisky-like take on the nose but with soft juniper and citrus following. This is an impeccably balanced gin: it is zesty and refreshing, bittersweet and aromatic and, somehow, both creamy and dry. This a smooth, full-bodied gin, bursting with juniper and a gentle, peppermint finish.
