5 Summer Gin Cocktails

Ah, the great, British summer - it’s not always the hottest or the sunniest but that’s no excuse not to make some fabulous summer gin cocktails!

Drunken Tulip

Drunken Tulip Gin Cocktail Recipe

A Gin Festival favourite, the Drunken Tulip is a delightfully aromatic yet fruity cocktail with that perfect pop of prosecco. Taking three dry ingredients, gin, prosecco and pomegranate, this is a surprisingly refreshing drink.

Add to shaker:

Shake with ice.

Strain into an ice-filled glass.

Add a splash of prosecco.

Garnish with pomegranate and slice of lemon.

Strawberry Basil Smash

Strawberry Basil Smash Gin Cocktail Recipe

Strawberry could easily be called the definitive flavour of summer; this drink, with its fresh fruit, is the epitome of strawberry delicousness and is well balanced by the aromatic basil. Perfect with Martin Miller’s Westbourne whose clear, sharp citrus shines through beautifully.

Muddle the following in the base of collins glass:

  • 4 small strawberries

  • 2 basil leaves

Add to the glass:

  • 2 shots of Martin Miller's Westbourne Gin

  • 3 chopped strawberries

  • 2 basil leaves

Add ice and churn the content of the glass.

Top with soda water.

Add 2 drops of Orange Bitters.

Blighty Mojito

Blighty Mojito Gin Cocktail Recipe

We hear you, a mojito without rum is a travesty! Unless, that is, it’s Portobello Road’s Blighty Mojito. Fresh, light and delightfully thirst-quenching, this is an ideal drink for lounging in the garden.

Add to a Collins glass:

  • 50ml Portobello Road

  • 20ml Sugar Syrup

  • 20ml Fresh Lime Juice

  • 10 Mint Leaves

  • 1 inch of diced cucumber

  • 50ml Soda Water

  • 50ml Fever-Tree Indian Tonic Water

  • A little crushed ice

Churn together with a long bar spoon.

Top with more crushed ice and garnish with a sprig of mint.

Bermuda Hundred

Bermuda Hundred Gin Cocktail Recipe

If you’re looking for something a little more complex (in flavour rather than technique!) try the Bermuda Hundred; it’s crisp and fruity, with wonderful aromatic tones from the gin (especially if you use Tarquin's Gin) and a touch of bitterness from the Campari.

Shake together with ice:

  • 1 ½ shots Sloane’s

  • ¾ shots Campari

  • 1 ½ shots pineapple juice

  • ½ shot fresh lime juice

  • ½ shot almond syrup (orgeat)

Strain into an ice-filled Old Fashioned glass.

Garnish with a cherry.

Byzantine Gin Cocktail Recipe

Incredibly fresh and fruity, the Byzantine is a long, gin cocktail with a crisp herbal touch. Bold, citrusy gins, like Hawthorn’s lend themselves well to the drink, allowing the flavours of the other ingredients to shine through.

Muddle 5 basil leaves.

Add to shaker:

  • 2 shots Hawthorn’s London Dry Gin

  • ½ shot passionfruit syrup

  • ½ shot lemongrass and lime cordial

  • 2 shots pineapple juice

Shake with ice.

Strain into an ice-filled Collins glass.

Top with tonic.

Garnish with fresh basil leaves.

There you have it, 5 tipples that are ideal for sipping while relaxing in the garden.
